Episode Summary: What does flourishing look like for a global Congregation of Jesus—and what does it take to build a future filled with hope, joy, and possibility?

In this episode, Veronica Fuhrmann, CJ, General Superior of the Congregation of Jesus, returns to reflect on the past year and shares her vision for a united congregation: a joyful and resilient community willing to take thoughtful risks, collaborate with lay partners, and put mission ahead of fear. She challenges sisters to ask a deeply personal question: Are you happy in your vocation? And she reminds us that our inner “yes” can continue to grow and sustain us, even as ministries, roles, and circumstances change.

And because the future belongs to all of us, we close with seven short reflections from voices across the Mary Ward family. Their hopes are as diverse as the global community they represent—but together they speak of creative service, joyful collaboration, and carrying Mary Ward’s legacy into a new future.

One congregation. Many voices. One shared spirit.

About Sr. Veronica Fuhrmann, CJ (click to expand)

Sr. Veronica Fuhrmann, CJ is from Mainz, a city in the heart of Germany on the River Rhine. She studied German and French language and literature, along with theology, in Mainz and Lyon, France. Several years later, she trained as an assistant nurse, equipping her to serve more deeply in the care of elderly sisters.

With professional roots in education, Sr. Veronica has also been involved in nursing and refugee ministry. Throughout her years of service, she has been especially committed to empowering children and young people through education and capacity building, extending her outreach well beyond the classroom whenever possible. An equally important dimension of her mission has been the holistic care of elderly and infirm sisters within the congregation.

She has served in a number of leadership roles within her congregation: as General Secretary in Rome from 1993 to 2000; as a member of the Province Leadership Team in Germany from 2020 to 2022; and, since the end of 2022, as General Superior in Rome. In recent years, she has played a central role in accompanying the merger process of the IBVM and CJ congregations—a journey initiated by earlier leadership teams and brought to implementation in November 2025.
